Top 5 Films of 2007

The top 5 films of the year were:

5. Lakshyam
Although this wasn't really a great film with a superb storyline and screenplay, it was still a good watch. I think the main reason for this was Jagapathi Babu and his character. Gopichand did a good job and the music was also OK. Although it is an old story that we have all seen before it gets into my top 5 because other films just simply failed to impress.

4. Dubai Seenu
Ravi Teja's film gets into my top 5 because of its overall entertainment value. It was also a well made movie technically with smooth editing and screenplay. You would expect the comedy to be good, considering it is a Srinu Vaitla film starring Ravi Teja ,and it was. Ravi Teja gives an energetic performance as usual and the music also impresses. It was a well made movie with good entertainment value, what more can you ask for?

3. Yamadonga
This SS Rajamouli film gets into my top 5 because I didn't expect him to make such a movie. SS Rajamouli has been renowned for his violent revenge films like Simhadri and Chatrapathi. However, Yamadonga is a completely different movie with a fantasy backdrop. NTR was simply superb in all aspects in this movie, be it acting, dancing and fighting. The music wasn't great but it was better than Keeravani's music for Rajamouli's earlier ventures. It also featured some extravagant sets and good graphics work which added to the viewing experience. A good family movie from Rajamouli.

2. Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule
AMAV as it has become popularly known as is number 2. Venkatesh once again proves that there is no one to beat him when it comes to family oriented roles. He excels in his acting in this film and impresses in all scenes, comedy and sentimental. He is one of the actors that you feel his sorrow when he is crying and laugh when he cracks a joke, a unique artist indeed. Trisha also gave a good performance combined with some melodies from Yuvan Shankar Raja. Overall this movie was Venkatesh all the way.

1. Happy Days
No one expected this film to do so well. Sekhar Kammula is a unique director and always makes off-beat movies but stills impresses. The performances by the debutant actors was simply superb each one of them doing full justice to their roles. But the reason why it is such a big hit and still running in some theatres even now is the nostalgia that Kammula was able to create. Everyone in the audience can connect with at least one of the characters in the film and by the end of the film you feel like you know each character personally. It is really an exceptional film and deserves to be number 1 of 2007.

Some films that missed out:

Dhee
Although many people had this movie in their top 5 and even as their number 1, I just could not connect with this movie. It had some good comedy but it was disjointed with the storyline. The storyline was one we could predict from the very beginning of the movie with no twists what so ever. Vishnu isn't bad as the hero but I think he still has a very long way to go as an actor. The only shining lights in this film were Sri Hari and Bramhanadam. Without them this movie would not have even been close to a hit.

Desamuduru
Puri Jaganath was back after the stupendous success of Pokiri. However, he simply failed in created a tight screenplay and interesting storyline. In Pokiri there was a twist in the tail that made the whole movie make sense, but Desamuduru didn't really have any twists. Allu Arjun was pretty good in his new avatar with long hair and well-built body, but his performance was really nothing new. The music was also not impressive and it seemed that they were just composed for the dance steps of Allu Arjun and forgot that they also had to sound good. But all this said, it did go on to become a super hit but couldn't find its place in the top 5.
