Mahesh and NTR in movie?

There is a rumor doing the rounds that Mahesh and NTR are going to be acting in the same movie. Now that would really set the box office on fire no matter how good the movie is. These two are the leading heroes in the younger generation and if this film does materialize and does well then it will no doubt start a trend of multistarers. But it will definitely be tough to get a script that accommodates for the star status of both actors. Even though both actors are very talented they are not very similar to each other in terms of their acting styles, which could be a good or bad thing. We are just speculating at the moment as it is only a rumor, lets see what happens if it is actually announced.

Jalsa 2nd Trailer

This is the second trailer of the upcoming Jalsa,

BTW the movie is expected to release tomorrow in 1000 theaters around the world. Trade analysts are expecting this movie to hopefully break the streak of flops this year. Only two films have become commercially successful this year, Gamyam and Krishna. If this movie gets good or very good talk we could see some records broken, even those of Pokiri. Lets all wait and see. I will be opening a discussion forum tomorrow on this site, so people who have watched the film can post their reviews. So visit tomorrow.

Jalsa Trailer

Here is Pawan Kalyan's upcoming film Jalsa's trailer:

Tuesday 19 February 2008

Nag's next is KING

Nagarjuna's next movie is going to be in the direction of Srinu Vaitla and produced by Siva Prasad Reddy under Kaamakshi movies banner. It is going to probably be called King. The shooting will begin in April. Trisha is under consideration as the heroine. Mani Sharma or Devi Sri Prasad will score the music.

What is Bunny's title

Allu Arjun next movie in the direction of 'Bommarillu' Bhaskar and produced by Dil Raju has been shooting for some time now. The title of this movie has been changed close to six to seven times. At the moment it is titled Swayamvaram. But there is no guarantee about that. It is expected to release May 9.

Mahesh's new movie almost confirmed

Finally! It seems Mahesh will be doing a movie in the direction of Trivikram Srinivas next. It may be called Varudu. Ileana will be the female lead and Genelia may also be roped in as the second heroine. It is also likely that Mahesh's favorite Mani Sharma will score the music for this film. So it is good to hear that he has finalized a project. It is likely to go to floors in April after the release of Trivikram's Jalsa. They are planning to release it this year, but Trivikram is known to be a perfectionist and it is more than likely that it will release next year.

Meanwhile, there is a rumor that famous Hollywood production house Warner Bros. is going to venture into Telugu cinema and produce a movie with Mahesh in it. It is going to be the next movie after this one. It will be directed by Rajamouli and is going be a very high budget venture.

Ontari Preview

Gopichand is back in action after his successful Lakshyam last year. This time it is in the direction of BV Ramana. The film is produced by Pokuri Baburao and his co-star is Bhavana, who is making her debut in Telugu with this film. The audio from Mani Sharma has also recieved positive feedback.

There are rumors circulating that it is similar to the 2005 film Naa Oopiri. Apparently, the hero lives in isolation but believes that the heroine is alive and has dreams about incidents with her. In fact, the heroine and all his family are killed and hence the hero lives in isolation. A lot of people believe this may be the story as it also fits well with the title Ontari.

Anyway, whatever the story may be, Ontari is releasing on Valentines Day.

What is Mahesh doing these days?

Mahesh Babu is yet to sign on to do a new film after the release of Athidi. There was a lot of speculation on what he was going to do next. First it was said that he was going to do a film titled Mirchi, which was going to be directed by Jasti Hemambar. There was also a rumor that Ileana had signed on to act in this film. But this film hasn't seem to materialize.

Then it was said that he would act in Hare Rama Hare Krishna produced by MS Raju and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. But that also didn't materialize.

It seemed that every big and small director had a script for Mahesh. Other directors names that were mentioned were: Sekhar Kammula, SS Rajamouli, Goutham, Srivaas (Lakshyam) and even Shankar.

Recently a fresh rumor was spread that Mahesh's next movie was with VV Vinayak. But that rumor has been proven to be false with official conformation that VV Vinayak will be doing that film with Jr NTR.

It was however, confirmed that SS Rajamouli will be doing a film with Mahesh but only after he finished his film with Ram Charan which will be earlier next year. So what is Mahesh doing? Only he knows exactly!

What is Happening 2008?

2008 has opened with a bang with four big Sankranti releases: and Okka Magadu, Krishna, Pourudu and Vaana. Only Krishna has bagged hit talk out of these four. Okka Magadu is close to becoming a disaster while Pourudu and Vaana can be termed as average.

Late January also had some releases with some well known actors. Swagatham starring Jagapathi Babu, Bhoomika and Anushka has released to mixed talk. The final outcome of this film will soon be known. Another release late January was Mr Medhavi, starring Raja and Genelia and directed by national award-winning director Nelakanta. This film got good reviews but is only targeted at the families and classes.

Coming to February, the first to release was Krishnarjuna, starring Vishnu and Nagarjuna. It was released with a lot of hype but could not live up to expectations. The latest to release were Sundarakanda and Vishaka Express. Ontari starring Gopichand and Bhavana is lined up to release on Valentines Day.

The next big release is expected to be the Pawan Kalyan starrer Jalsa. It also stars Ileana as the main heroine. It is directed by Trivikram Srinivas who earlier directed super hit films Nuvve.. Nuvve .. and Athadu. The expectations are huge for this film, and they have increased even more due to the recent leakage of three songs in the audio composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

Other releases expected this year are:

Allu Arjun/Bhaskar/Dil Raju film- likely to be titled Premikudu likely to release in April
Ready- Directed by Srinu Vaitla starring Ram (Devadadu fame) and Genelia, likely to release in April
Bujjigadu - Made in Chennai-
Directed by Puri Jagannath, starring Prabhas, Trisha and Mohan Babu likely to release in May
Kantri- Directed by Meher Ramesh, starring NTR and Hansika. May Release.
Pandurangadu- Directed by K.Ragavendra Rao starring Balakrishna, Tabu and Sneha. Summer Release

Later in the year:

Chiranjeevi film- Director yet to be confirmed but likely to be called Adhi Nayakudu
Chintakaya Ravi-
directed by Yogi and starring Venkatesh.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Most dissapointing films of 2007

Hi everyone, today I will talk about the biggest disappointments of 2007 in regards to Tollywood.

Most disappointing films of the year:

5. Munna
4. Maharadhi
3. Yogi
2. Athidi
1. Shankar Dada Zindabad

All these movies had big names and failed mainly because they just couldn't reach expectations of the audience. SDZ and Athidi had huge expectations and, although they weren't bad movies, failed to live up to their expectations. Munna was another movie that had big expectations but the weak storyline and almost unnecessary twists worked against the movie. Another Prabhas movie, Yogi, makes it into the list. It was released during the popular Sankranti season but failed miserably because of the bad script and tragic ending. Moreover, there was a feeling that Prabhas just didn't suit the role of Yogi. Maharadhi on the other hand lost some its hype because of the delayed release. It was a another dud for Balakrishna, in fact his fourth consecutive failure. There just wasn't anything interesting in the script with the climax being just too predictable.

Top 5 Films of 2007

The top 5 films of the year were:

5. Lakshyam
Although this wasn't really a great film with a superb storyline and screenplay, it was still a good watch. I think the main reason for this was Jagapathi Babu and his character. Gopichand did a good job and the music was also OK. Although it is an old story that we have all seen before it gets into my top 5 because other films just simply failed to impress.

4. Dubai Seenu
Ravi Teja's film gets into my top 5 because of its overall entertainment value. It was also a well made movie technically with smooth editing and screenplay. You would expect the comedy to be good, considering it is a Srinu Vaitla film starring Ravi Teja ,and it was. Ravi Teja gives an energetic performance as usual and the music also impresses. It was a well made movie with good entertainment value, what more can you ask for?

3. Yamadonga
This SS Rajamouli film gets into my top 5 because I didn't expect him to make such a movie. SS Rajamouli has been renowned for his violent revenge films like Simhadri and Chatrapathi. However, Yamadonga is a completely different movie with a fantasy backdrop. NTR was simply superb in all aspects in this movie, be it acting, dancing and fighting. The music wasn't great but it was better than Keeravani's music for Rajamouli's earlier ventures. It also featured some extravagant sets and good graphics work which added to the viewing experience. A good family movie from Rajamouli.

2. Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule
AMAV as it has become popularly known as is number 2. Venkatesh once again proves that there is no one to beat him when it comes to family oriented roles. He excels in his acting in this film and impresses in all scenes, comedy and sentimental. He is one of the actors that you feel his sorrow when he is crying and laugh when he cracks a joke, a unique artist indeed. Trisha also gave a good performance combined with some melodies from Yuvan Shankar Raja. Overall this movie was Venkatesh all the way.

1. Happy Days
No one expected this film to do so well. Sekhar Kammula is a unique director and always makes off-beat movies but stills impresses. The performances by the debutant actors was simply superb each one of them doing full justice to their roles. But the reason why it is such a big hit and still running in some theatres even now is the nostalgia that Kammula was able to create. Everyone in the audience can connect with at least one of the characters in the film and by the end of the film you feel like you know each character personally. It is really an exceptional film and deserves to be number 1 of 2007.

Some films that missed out:

Dhee
Although many people had this movie in their top 5 and even as their number 1, I just could not connect with this movie. It had some good comedy but it was disjointed with the storyline. The storyline was one we could predict from the very beginning of the movie with no twists what so ever. Vishnu isn't bad as the hero but I think he still has a very long way to go as an actor. The only shining lights in this film were Sri Hari and Bramhanadam. Without them this movie would not have even been close to a hit.

Desamuduru
Puri Jaganath was back after the stupendous success of Pokiri. However, he simply failed in created a tight screenplay and interesting storyline. In Pokiri there was a twist in the tail that made the whole movie make sense, but Desamuduru didn't really have any twists. Allu Arjun was pretty good in his new avatar with long hair and well-built body, but his performance was really nothing new. The music was also not impressive and it seemed that they were just composed for the dance steps of Allu Arjun and forgot that they also had to sound good. But all this said, it did go on to become a super hit but couldn't find its place in the top 5.

Top 5 Albums of 2007

2007 was a year with a wide variety of music released in Telugu cinema. A considerable shift was seen this year, with more peppy and westernized tunes being released and less and less traditional Telugu-like songs released. However, saying that doesn't mean some good albums weren't released last year. Anyway, lets cut to the chase, in my opinion these are the top 5 albums of the year 2007:

5. Dubai Seenu
Music Director: Mani Sharma
Lyrics: Ramajogaiah Sastry and Sahiti
<p><a href="undefined?e">undefined</a></p>
This was an interesting album and gets into my top 5 because of its variety. Its really got
something for everyone, melody, a few peppy songs and a mass song. My favorites in this album were: Kanya Raasi (sung by Vijay Yesudas and Suchitra) which is soft melody with lilting interludes; as well Diwali Holi (sung by
Deepu, Karunya and Kausalya) another melody. Overall all the songs are good and certainly none of them are too hard on the ears.

4.
Munna
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Lyrics:
Viswa, Kandikonda, Ananth Sriram, Bhaskarbhatla
<p><a href="http://musicmazaa.com/telugu/audiosongs/movie/Munna.html?e">Listen to Munna Audio Songs at MusicMazaa.com</a></p>
An example of a movie that bombed but had excellent music. Harris Jayaraj gave some great tunes in the past for Tamil movies that were subsequently dubbed into Telugu. However, this is the first time he is composing music for a straight Telugu film. He did well, with one song that is going to remembered for a long time in Manasa (sung by
Sadhana Sargam, Naresh Iyer, Krish and Haricharan). This album is mainly peppy and is targeted at the youths.

3. Shankar Dada Zindabad
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Lyrics:
Devi Sri Prasad, Bhaskarabatla, Sahithi, Chandrabose, Suddala Ashok Teja
<p><a href="undefined?e">undefined</a></p>
Although the film bombed at the box office the music was very well appreciated. Devi Sri once again does a good job. Favourite in this one is probably Good Morning Hyderabad (sung by Shakar Mahadevan), which a lively number with interesting lyrics from Devi Sri himself. The movie may not be remembered in years to come but the music will surely live on.

2. Happy Days
Music: Mickey J. Meyer
Lyrics:
Vanamaali, Venkatesh Patvari, Veturi
Listen to Happy Days Audio Songs at MusicMazaa.com
The music in this film actually did not appeal to me straight away. But it has some infectious melodies that are slow poison. The two songs that definitely stand out are Arey Arey and O My Friend (both voiced by Karthik). The thing about these two songs are that they are very Telugu in nature. That may sound crazy, but almost all songs feature Hindi and English words. But these two are very limited in the use of foreign words. That's what makes them even better. Mikey J. Meyer has shown that he has great talent and potential. A great album to a very good movie.

1. Notebook
Music: Mickey J. Meyer
Lyrics:
Vanamali and Veturi
<p><a href="http://musicmazaa.com/telugu/audiosongs/movie/Note+Book.html?e">Listen to Note Book Audio Songs at MusicMazaa.com</a></p>
What
? Notebook? Never heard of it! Is that what you are thinking? Well if you have heard of it or heard the songs from it you will be sure to agree with me. Since the movie disappeared without a trace so did the music. But for those of you who haven't heard this album please do. It shows the true potential of Mickey J. Meyer. Although the number two album Happy Days made Mickey well known to everyone it is Notebook that encapsulates his true talent. Every song in this album is very good with meaningful lyrics and smooth interludes. It is hard to pick one song that stands out but I have to say the infectious and haunting melody Ee Gaali (sung by Nitya Santoshini) is probably the song of 2007. It is really unfortunate that this film didn't do that well but it makes it to the top of my list in 2007. If you haven't listened to it I highly encourage you to.

So that is my top 5, do you agree with me or not? Please leave comments, what are your top 5 albums of 2007?

P.S While we are on the subject of Notebook, I actually did get to see this movie on DVD. It is directed by Chandu of 10th Class-fame. It stars two debutants and is a tragic story which may be the reason it couldn't be received by the audience. But there are two things that stand out in this film. One of which I already made aware to you, the music. The other is the heroine, she seems to be really talented did full justice to her role. Her name is Gayatri and I hope we see a lot of her in films to come.

Anyway I will see you next time with my top films of 2007, stay tuned.
